Nearby castles and historic sites include Ruthven Barracks, Culloden Battlefield, Cawdor Castle, Ballindalloch Castle, Brodie Castle, Braemar Castle and Balmoral Castle as well as many more.


To delve more deeply into the local area's history and heritage, visit one of the museums in the Cairngorms National Park. There you'll find a wealth of information to bring the history of the Cairngorms to life.

The Highland Folk Museum in Newtonmore gives visitors a flavour of how Highland people lived and worked from the 1700s up until the 1960s. Other interesting local museums include Grantown Museum and Inverness Museum and Art Gallery.

Some of the most popular attractions include the Funicular Railway which takes you up Cairngorm Mountain and runs year-round, the Glenlivet Distillery Visitor Centre and the Strathspey Railway.
